To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance and to recognize the momentous occasions being held throughout the City of Columbus

 

Body

WHEREAS, we honor the intellectual, social, and artistic movement that established the moment when America recognized the contributions of Blacks, known as the Harlem Renaissance, originating in Harlem, New York during the 1920s.

 

WHEREAS, during the Harlem Renaissance, African American artists, authors, activists, musicians and poets were recognized for their brilliance and produced several inspirational works  that progressed the movement and revitalized Black culture.

 

WHEREAS, we recognize the Lincoln Theatre Association and their partners as the official hosts of the 2018 Lincoln Theatre Gala for the 100th Anniversary celebration  of the Harlem Renaissance; now therefore, 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS

That this Council does hereby pay homage to the Harlem Renaissance for its historical impact on African Americans and American culture itself
