To honor and recognize April 2018 as Child Abuse Prevention Month

 

Body

WHEREAS, children are vital to our city’s future success, prosperity and quality of life as well as being our most vulnerable assets; and

 

WHEREAS, child abuse is defined as all forms of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial or other exploitation, resulting in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, survival, development or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust or power; and

 

WHEREAS, the city of Columbus is committed to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect; and

 

WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a community responsibility affecting both the current and future quality of life of a community; and

 

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council calls upon all citizens, community agencies, faith groups, medical facilities, elected leaders and businesses to increase their participation in our efforts to support families, thereby preventing child abuse and strengthening the communities in which we live; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  That this Council does hereby recognize the month of April 2018 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
