To recognize and celebrate Sunday, April 22nd, 2018 as Earth Day in Columbus

WHEREAS, celebrating Earth Day represents all of the hard work that has been done and will continue be done to protect our planet and keep our families safe; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to ending plastic pollution; and
WHEREAS, Green Columbus, a nonprofit organization that helps coordinate the celebration at Genoa Park for Earth Day, has gathered over 4,000 volunteers who will have contributed more than 14,000 volunteer hours to the cause at more than 170 work sites around the city this year; and
WHEREAS, Columbus City Council encourages all residents to make an Earth Day 2018 resolution and thank the many people and organizations in our community who have spent the past week dedicating time to clean their neighborhoods and help our environment; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize Sunday, April 22nd as Earth Day in the city of Columbus.
