To Honor and Celebrate Harold L. Garnes 100th Birthday on April 22nd, 2018.

 

Body

WHEREAS, born in Bidwell, Ohio, Harold Garnes graduated from Bidwell High School, eventually enrolling in Rio Grande College; finding the costs of attending university prohibitive, Harold moved to the south side of Columbus where he sold insurance door-to-door; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1941 he joined the U.S. Army and served for four years during WWII; he was eventually awarded the WWII Bronze Star and WW II Victory Medal for his courage; and

 

WHEREAS, following his discharge from the military, Harold spent 39 years working for the Defense Construction Supply Center and an addition ten working for Columbia Gas of Ohio; after his retirement, Harold became a neighborhood leader well past the age of 92, driving neighbors to appointments and beautifying his community; as a result of his dedication, he was nominated in 2010 for the Central Ohio Area Agency On Aging Outstanding Senior Award; and

 

WHEREAS, now, Harold and his family celebrate one hundred years of hard work, determination, and kindness and remember his late wife, Carrie, for the immense impact she had on his life during their 72 years of marriage; to this day, he is respected for his work ethic and dedication by friends and family; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this Council does hereby celebrate Harold L. Garnes 100th birthday and thank him for his service and his contribution to community on April 22nd, 2018.
