To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Clarence D.  Lumpkin, 1924 - 2019.                     

 

Body

WHEREAS, Clarence D. Lumpkin was born on September 12, 1924 in Nashville, GA to Mattie Lee McCrae; and

 

WHEREAS, Clarence was a longtime activist with decades of service to his community which affectionately earned him the moniker “Mayor “of Linden; and

 

WHEREAS,  Clarence was recognized for decades of service to the Linden Community and the City of Columbus  where he lived  for more than 49 years, in 2009  the Linden Post Office was renamed the Clarence D. Lumpkin Post Office to honor Clarence; and

WHEREAS,  Clarence  retired from the State of Ohio where he served as Chief of Enforcement Division for the Bureau of Enforcement Division for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles; and

WHEREAS,  Clarence was loved by many, left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Willa Marie Lumpkin, children, Betty (Aaron) Kennedy, Carolyn Bethel, Linda Kent and Douglas  Lumpkin; grandchildren , Kevin Mitchell, Jason (Anna) Kent, Kniaka Bethel, Kedada Bethel, Douglas (Monique) Lumpkin and Jamil Hester ; great-grandchildren and a host of relatives , family and friends; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That this Council does hereby honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Clarence D. Lumpkin and extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing.
