To recognize the Central Ohio Restored Citizens’ Collaborative for their work in support of Columbus residents in need of a second chance

Body

[WHEREAS, The Central Ohio Restored Citizens' Collaborative is a coalition dedicated to supporting those touched by the justice system. Their network of community resource providers, justice-involved citizens, and supportive stakeholders help to ease the transition from conviction to restoration.

WHEREAS, through a myriad of resources, community events, and networking opportunities, they aide in meeting the many needs of those who need a second chance. The overall goal is to help change the narrative surrounding criminal justice and help achieve permanent change one citizen at a time.

WHEREAS, On November 7th, 2019, the Central Ohio Restored Citizens' Collaborative will host their annual signature event, the Restored Citizens' Summit at Columbus State Community College's Center for Workforce Development. Formed eight years ago by a small group of individuals and resource providers, some with past criminal convictions, the Summit is designed to empower citizens returning from incarceration to gain the tools needed to become successful and productive citizens regardless of past convictions. The group has maintained the goal of restoration for all and has risen to the level of local and state recognition as a model for other non-profit social justice organizations.

WHEREAS, As the Central Ohio Restored Citizens' Collaborative has garnered support, the notion of day-to-day services for all returning citizens has become a priority for their members. Creating a comprehensive re-entry resource guide that is utilized by both justice-involved individuals and resource providers has allowed them to serve hundreds throughout central Ohio both in the community and in our correctional institutions.
