Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded additional funding from the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Health Services, Violence and Injury Prevention Section.  This ordinance is needed to accept the additional funding of $50,000.00 in grant monies to provide additional funding for the Child Injury Prevention grant program for the period of February 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020.

The Child Injury Prevention grant program enables Columbus Public Health to work with the Franklin County Suicide Coalition to develop a strategic plan to decrease youth suicides in Franklin County and will assist the coalition with the implementation of evidence-based strategies.  The additional funding for youth suicide prevention will both enhance current youth suicide prevention activities for the Child Injury Grant as well as expand youth suicide prevention activities by allowing implementation of an additional PSEC (Policy Systems and Environmental Change) activity.

This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transactions to be posted in the City’s accounting system as soon as possible.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Child Injury Prevention grant program is entirely funded by the Ohio Department of Health and does not generate revenue or require a City match.
