Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health (CPH) has been awarded a grant from PeopleForBikes Foundation to implement the Better Bike Share grant program. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $8,550.00 in grant monies to fund the Better Bike Share grant program for the period of February 1, 2020 through June 15, 2020.

The Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) is a collaboration funded by The JPB Foundation to build equitable and replicable bike share systems. The BBSP Mini-Grant program supports projects with the broad goal of increasing access to and use of shared mobility options in low-income or communities of color. The mini-grant awarded to Columbus Public Health will be used to enhance outreach and engagement in the Linden community in conjunction with the expansion of the CoGo Bike Share system into the neighborhood in Spring 2020, including campaigns, events, and partnerships, as well as leveraging partnerships with neighborhood leaders and organizations to become champions for CoGo within the community.

This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so a delay in service does not occur since the grant begins February 1, 2020.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Better Bike Share grant program is fully funded ($8,550.00) by PeopleForBikes Foundation and does not require a City match.
