To Recognize and Celebrate the Columbus Crew SC’s 25th Season and Declare this week as “Black and Gold Week”

WHEREAS, the Crew SC enter the new season in celebration of Columbus Crew SC’s 25th season in Major League Soccer; and
WHEREAS, the Crew is an MLS Charter Club; the first club in MLS with the first professional soccer-specific stadium in the country, MAPFRE Stadium, which opened in 1999; and
WHEREAS, they are looking forward to joining the Arena District in a new world class downtown stadium in 2021. There, the stadium will become a fixture of our vibrant city; and
WHEREAS, Black & Gold Week shows a dedication to the community and future growth of soccer in Central Ohio and beyond through engagement with residents of Columbus and supporters alike; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday March 1st, the Crew seek to continue their momentum and will face their Easter Conference opponents, the New York City FC, 1st at 12:30pm at MAPFRE Stadium; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby Recognize this week, leading up to Columbus Crew SC’s Opening Match, as “Black & Gold Week” serving as a celebration of soccer throughout the community.
