Explanation
This ordinance authorizes an appropriation in support of programming and activities associated with the Columbus Youth Council.

The inaugural Columbus Youth Council was convened for the 2019-2020 school year. Students selected to the Columbus Youth Council will have an opportunity to learn about city government and how they can become stewards in their community. They will be participating in several lessons dealing with topics such as the structure of city government, city development, youth services provided by our non-profit organizations, and much more. For their service on Columbus Youth Council, students will:

? Gain a greater understanding of city government and how local leaders make a difference;
? Enhance their skills in civic engagement and local leadership, becoming stewards of their community;
? Meet city leaders and have this experience on their resume for life after high school;
? Accrue hours toward their high school volunteer commitment;
? Travel to Washington D.C. to lobby state and federal leaders on matters of importance to Columbus.

Emergency action is requested in order to have funding in place for the execution of planned events.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.
