To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Mrs. Lila “Missy” Weiler and her contributions to the Columbus Community

Whereas, As a resident of over 60 years, Missy was a pillar of the Eastmoor community located in East Columbus. This was just the start of her career in community service, advocacy, and support; and
Whereas, With a relentless passion for the education of youth from primary school to college, Missy holds the distinction of the longest-serving volunteer in the Columbus City Schools, tutoring children at Ohio Avenue Elementary; and
Whereas, Missy and her husband Bob Weiler became active in the National Parent Teacher Association in 1977, rolling up their sleeves and working locally to desegregate the Columbus City School system on September 6, 1979; and
Whereas, Missy has a long track record of supporting educational equity causes focused on advancing historically underrepresented minority populations and other economically disadvantaged individuals; and
Whereas, The long-standing I Know I Can scholarship fund, founded in 1988 by Missy, her husband Bob Weiler, and three others has spent tens of millions of dollars helping thousands of Columbus City School graduates pursue higher education over the past three decades by covering application fees, financing scholarships, and providing workshops to help students fill out applications and seek financial aid. In 2020 alone, the program served 30,000 students, awarding them $2.4 million in scholarships; and
Whereas, Lila “Missy” Weiler, a wife, mother, tireless contributor to the Columbus Community, and friend to many passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021. She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Mr. Bob Weiler. Their children include Dawn (Rob) Barkley, Jill (Steve Brescia) Weiler, Skip (Linda) Weiler, Jim (Sandy Martin-Weiler) Weiler, and a host of grandchildren; now, therefore
