Title

 

To recognize Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families - Commission on Black Girls on their joint Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign; enhancing community awareness regarding child abuse and neglect and the intersectionality of racism specific to Black girls in Franklin County and to encourage support for the prevention of all forms of abuse.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, many residents of the City of Columbus and Franklin County are unaware of the extent to which child abuse and neglect impact our community and the disproportionality of abuse and neglect happening to Black girls every year in Franklin County; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin County Children Services strives to prevent the abuse and neglect of children by strengthening families; and

 

WHEREAS, The Center for Healthy Families through its work with the Commission on Black Girls is leading the charge in addressing complex conditions that exacerbate the disproportionate responses to care for Black girls and Black children; and 

 

WHEREAS, The Center for Healthy Families expanded its commitment to improving the quality of life and outcomes for Black girls by becoming the permanent home of the work for the Commission on Black Girls; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families are taking a blended approach to preventing all forms of abuse, neglect, and the intersectionality of racism; and 

 

WHEREAS, Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families are creating community-level advocacy to bridge pathways that positively transform Black girls' lives, thus all girls and children collectively; and

 

WHEREAS, Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families Pinwheels for Prevention campaign enhances community awareness about child abuse, neglect, and the intersectionality of racism by encouraging support for prevention by displaying pinwheels in front of courthouses, playgrounds, libraries, and parks, with each pinwheel representing one adult who acted on behalf of a child; and

 

WHEREAS, the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign is an annual program that has grown each year since its inception, and 2021 marks the 1st of this combined effort between The Center for Healthy Families and Franklin County Children Services; and

 

WHEREAS, the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign dramatically illustrates to the public that child abuse and neglect happens in every community and encourages all community members to focus on prevention as part of an overall plan to break the cycle of child abuse, neglect, and the intersectionality of racism; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families - Commission on Black Girls on their joint Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign; enhancing community awareness regarding child abuse and neglect and the intersectionality of racism specific to Black girls in Franklin County and to encourage support for the prevention of all forms of abuse.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be presented to Franklin County Children Services and The Center for Healthy Families - Commission on Black Girls, with our utmost esteem.
