Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes an appropriation of $119,382.67 from the unappropriated balance of funds in the Police Training/Entrepreneurial Fund. Ordinance 1271-00, passed in June 2000, established a special revenue fund for the Division of Police to deposit proceeds from Police training activities. Law enforcement agencies are charged fees for the renting of classroom space, police videotapes, and other training materials. The proceeds from these charges are deposited into the Police Training Fund. The proceeds from this fund are used to invite speakers and trainers to conduct law enforcement training sessions and to purchase training materials and supplies.

WHEREAS, an appropriation is needed to cover costs associated within the Police Training/Entrepreneurial Fund; and,
WHEREAS, this fund was established to receive funds from Police training activities and the proceeds are used to conduct training seminars as well as purchase training materials and supplies; and,
WHEREAS, this fund will be used to invite speakers and trainers to conduct law enforcement training and to purchase training materials and supplies; and
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Safety to authorize this appropriation; now, therefore:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
