To recognize the week of April 18th to April 24th, 2021, as National Student Leadership Week in Columbus, and to commend Youth to Youth International for their drug prevention advocacy program, leadership efforts and support of Central Ohio youth.
Body
WHEREAS, the week of April 18th to April 24th, 2021, is the forty-ninth annual observance of National Student Leadership Week (NSLW) in America and is sponsored by National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, and National Student Council; and
WHEREAS, NSLW is an annual theme-based week dedicated to recognizing and supporting the vital role of student leaders; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus recognizes that a productive exchange of ideas and discussion of leadership principles improves the quality of life by increasing productivity, competition, and growth, both in youth and in organizations; and
WHEREAS, Youth to Youth is a drug prevention program for middle and high school students founded in 1982 and has been serving teens upwards of 50,000 teens in Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus commends Youth to Youth’s Youth Advisory Board for their efforts to educate youth on the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; and
WHEREAS, the national observance of National Youth Leadership Week will encourage community and student leaders to increase their competence, inspire their peers, and promote a better understanding of youth leadership and professional development in the community; and
WHEREAS, Youth to Youth’s strong presence in Columbus has helped develop the leadership skills of many of our finest young residents; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize the week of April 18th to April 24th, 2021, as National Youth Leadership Week, and commends Youth to Youth International for their leadership efforts and support of the Central Ohio youth.
