Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded a grant from the Franklin County Board of Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $97,537.00 in grant money to fund the Health Literacy Grant Program, for the period July 13, 2021 through June 30, 2022. The Health Literacy Grant Program is an initiative to identify and implement best practices for improving health literacy to enhance COVID-19 vaccination and other mitigation practices among underserved populations.


FISCAL IMPACT: The Health Literacy Grant Program is entirely funded by the grant from the Franklin County Board of Health and does not generate revenue or require a City Match.

To authorize and direct the Board of Health to accept a grant from the Franklin County Board of Health in the amount of $97,537.00 for the Health Literacy Grant Program, to authorize the appropriation of $97,537.00 from the unappropriated balance of the Health Department Grants Fund; and to declare an emergency. Body

WHEREAS, $97,537.00 in grant funds have been made available through the Franklin County Board of Health for the Health Literacy Grant Program for the period of July 13, 2021 through June 30, 2022; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to accept and appropriate these funds from the Franklin County Board of Health for the continued support of the Health Literacy Grant Program; and,

WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of Columbus Public Health in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the Board of Health to accept these grant funds from the Franklin County Board of Health and to appropriate these funds to Columbus Public Health for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace,...
