Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes an appropriation of $4,842,064.92 from the unappropriated balance of the Federal and State Drug Law Enforcement Contraband/Seizure Funds for the Division of Police. Funds were received from seized and forfeited property and are used solely for law enforcement purposes as specified in Ordinance 1850-85. These funds are used to purchase various services, supplies, and equipment.

To authorize an appropriation of $4,842,064.92 from the unappropriated balance of the Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Fund to the Division of Police to fund travel and training needs and to purchase equipment, supplies, and services. ($4,842,064.92 )
Body
WHEREAS, monies were received from seized and forfeited property; and,
WHEREAS, funds received from these forfeitures must be solely used for law enforcement purposes as specified in Ordinance #1850-85; and,
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operations of the Public Safety Department, Division of Police, to appropriate funds in the Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Fund in order to fund travel and training needs, to purchase equipment, supplies, and services for the Division of Police, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS
SECTION 1. That from the unappropriated monies and from all monies estimated to come into said fund from any and all sources and unappropriated for any other purpose during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2021, the sum of $4,842,064.92 is appropriated in Fund 2219 Law Enforcement Contraband Seizure Fund in Object Class 02 Materials and Supplies, Object Class 03 Contractual Services, and Object Class 06 Capital Outlay per the account codes in the attachmen...
