Explanation
BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health was awarded a grant from the Ohio Commission on Minority Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $8,500.00 to fund Minority Health Month events for the period of September 17, 2021 through April 30, 2022. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for billboard advertisements, health screenings, and additional activities occurring at Minority Health Month events to help increase minority health awareness in Columbus communities.
CPH organized nine Minority Health Month initiatives in 2020. Minority Health Month activities directly served 3,465 community members and provided COVID-19 messaging, and addressed disparities among minority populations in Columbus providing COVID-19 information and. The billboard advertising campaign reaches an estimated 153,000 residents raising awareness for minority health initiatives.
Emergency action is requested to allow planning for future events to begin as soon as possible.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Minority Health Month Grant Program is fully funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health. This program does not generate revenue and does not require a City match.

To authorize and direct the Board of Health to accept a grant from the Ohio Commission on Minority Health in the amount of $8,500.00 for Minority Health Month events; to authorize the appropriation of $8,500.00 from the unappropriated balance of the Health Department Grants Fund; and to declare an emergency.
