To Recognize the Diversity Apprenticeship Program on the Completion of their First Cohort

 

Body

WHEREAS, in the fall of 2021 Experience Columbus in partnership with Tourism Diversity Matters accepted the first cohort into the Diversity Apprenticeship Program; and

 

WHEREAS, the Diversity Apprenticeship Program provides paid, hands on, on the job experience for people who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color) to work across multiple departments in travel industry organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, the Diversity Apprenticeship Program aims to act against the lack of diversity in the tourism industry and to help close the racial inequality gap; and

 

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council and Franklin County provided funding to the Diversity Apprenticeship Program and is invested in the success of the program and the apprentices; and

 

WHEREAS, successful economic development requires diverse representation in all industries; and

 

WHEREAS, upon successfully completing the program each apprentice will be offered a full-time position at one of the participating partner host locations; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize the Diversity Apprenticeship Program on the successful completion of their first cohort.
