To honor, recognize, and celebrate May 2022 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Columbus, Ohio.

WHEREAS, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is a celebration of AAPI culture, heritage, and contributions in the United States; and
WHEREAS, AAPI Heritage Month was celebrated in Congress in 1978 with a week long celebration and May 1990 was declared as the first Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month by President George H.W. Bush. May was permanently designated as AAPI Heritage Month in 1992; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Asian Pacific American Council selected Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration as the theme of AAPI Heritage Month for May 2022; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus celebrates and uplifts the diversity of its residents, and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders continue to contribute to the cultural and economic vibrancy of its communities; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate May 2022 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Columbus, Ohio.
