Title: To authorize and direct the Finance and Management Director to sell to Firefighter Jacob Castle, for the sum of $1.00, a Bomb Squad canine with the registered name "Lanix", which has no further value to the Division of Fire; and to waive the provisions of the Columbus City Codes, Sale of City-Owned Personal Property. Explanation

BACKGROUND: Canine "Lanix", a Bomb Squad dog, was acquired by the Division of Fire in 2019; "Lanix" will be retiring from active service due to a medical condition effective April 27, 2022 and will continue living with his handler, Firefighter Jacob Castle.

It is recommended that "Lanix" be sold to Firefighter Castle, who will continue to provide a good home to this canine that has served the citizens of Columbus for the past 3 years. Firefighter Castle has signed a general release document that relinquishes the City of Columbus from any liability as it relates to the post-retirement care and control of canine "Lanix," and assigns that liability to Firefighter Castle.

FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact upon the Fire Division due to this ordinance.

Body

WHEREAS, it is recommended that canine "Lanix", a retired Bomb Squad dog with the Division of Fire since 2019, is authorized to be sold to handler Firefighter Jacob Castle; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to waive the relevant provisions of Chapter 329 of City Code relating to the Sale of City-Owned Personal Property to permit the aforementioned sale; and,

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to allow this canine to be purchased by Firefighter Jacob Castle for the sum of $1.00; and,

WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Finance and Management to authorize the Director to sell this canine upon his retirement; now, therefore:
