Explanation

This ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to enter into a grant agreement with the Columbus Urban League in support of the organization’s annual Fishing with Dad event.

The Columbus Urban League (CUL) plans to host its annual Fishing with Dad event on Saturday June 18th, 2022, to coincide with Father’s Day weekend. This year CUL expects over 600 participants and 60 volunteers. Participants will enjoy an afternoon of free fishing, food and fun with their children. This event will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the joys of fishing through aquatic education courses focusing on casting, baiting, water safety, and identifying local fish. Each participant will receive a free fishing pole, bait, tackle and refreshments.

CUL will also offer fatherhood resources as well as an opportunity for fathers and families to register for CUL programs and other support services. This event will not only touch the fathers involved in CUL programming but also many families in the Near East Side community.

Emergency action is necessary to provide the Columbus Urban League with resources in advance of the event on June 18th, 2022.

Fiscal Impact: Funding is available within the Neighborhood Initiatives subfund.
