Title: To authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to modify by extending an existing contract with African American Male Wellness Walk to extend employment opportunities to students enrolled in the AAMWW Skill Up program through December 31, 2022; and to declare an emergency.

Explanation

 

Background:

 

Ordinance 1462-2022 authorized the expenditure of up to $250,000 from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund 2209 to expand youth employment and enrichment opportunities for at-risk boys and young men of color ages 14 to 24.   

 

This ordinance is needed to modify PO331110 by extending the contract with African American Male Wellness Walk (AMMWW) which is set to expire September 30, 2022 through to December 31, 2022. This modification is needed to continue offering employment opportunities to boys and young men of color.  There is no change to the scope of services and the original terms and conditions remain in effect.

 

African American Male Wellness Walk will offer employment opportunities to boys and young men of color to build awareness of the Wellness Walk throughout the country.

 

Fiscal Impact: No additional funding is required to modify contract. 

 

Emergency Justification:  an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Neighborhoods in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to modify PO331110 with African American Male Wellness Walk prior to its imminent expiration date to continue offering employment opportunities to boys and young men of color through December 31, 2022; NOW, THEREFORE

To authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to modify by extending an existing contract with African American Male Wellness Walk to extend employment opportunities to students enrolled in the AAMWW Skill Up program through December 31, 2022; and to declare an emergency.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to modify by extending, contract PO331110 with African American Male Wellness Walk through December 31, 2022; and

WHEREAS, The Mayor and City Council are committed to the mission and work of the My Brother’s Keeper; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Neighborhoods desires to modify contract PO331110 with African American Male Wellness Walk through December 31, 2022. This modification is needed to continue offering employment opportunities for boys and young men of color.  There is no change to the scope of services and the original terms and conditions remain in effect.

 

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Neighborhoods in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods to modify PO331110 with African American Male Wellness Walk prior to its imminent expiration date of September 30, 2022 to continue offering employment opportunities to boys and young men of color; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

SECTION 1.  That the Director of the Department of Neighborhoods be, and hereby is, authorized to modify by extending, contract PO331110 with African American Male Wellness Walk from an expiration of September 30, 2022 through to December 31,  2022, for the provision of offering employment opportunities to boys and young men of color.  There is no change to the scope of services and the original terms and conditions remain in effect.

 

SECTION 2. That this modification is in accordance with relevant provisions of Chapter 329 of the Columbus City Codes.

 

SECTION 3.  That for the reasons stated in the preamble hereto, which is hereby made a part hereof, this ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.
