To celebrate and recognize Chamber Music Columbus on the milestone of their 75th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, Prestige Concerts, now named Chamber Music Columbus, was founded 75 years ago by James Nelson Cain, a 17-year old West High School graduate planning to attend The Ohio State University; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the mission of Chamber Music Columbus continues to enrich the cultural life of central Ohio through the love and celebration of chamber music; and
WHEREAS, Chamber Music Columbus, since its earliest days, has endeavored to fulfill its mission by presenting diverse soloists and musicians, and was the first chamber organization in the city to introduce a special series of afternoon concerts for young people in 1949; and
WHEREAS, Chamber Music Columbus has presented 1,035 musicians and soloists and 428 concerts featuring artists as diverse as Metropolitan Opera sopranos Adele Addison and Shirley Verrett Carter to Lincoln Center stars Gilbert Kalish and Wu Han, and during the COVID crisis Chamber Music Columbus joined with, and hosted, a month-long groundbreaking virtual program featuring African American Chamber Groups in New York and Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, for 75 years, Chamber Music Columbus has provided a unique space for Columbus residents to come together and enjoy chamber music; and
WHEREAS, their 75th season is being celebrated by the commissioning of seven original works by international, national and local composers, and these works will be forever recorded as having their world premieres in Columbus; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: To celebrate and recognize Chamber Music Columbus on the milestone of their 75th Anniversary and their dedication to enriching the lives of Columbus residents through music and tradition.
