To Recognize and Celebrate the Contributions of Linda Schuler and Karla Rothan

WHEREAS, Linda Schuler has directed The Marvin Janis Senior Center creating a loving and caring environment for seniors in our community; and
WHEREAS, Linda has implemented numerous opportunities giving seniors in the community a welcoming environment, sparking their creativity, forming strong and lasting friendships, and providing opportunities to participate in their community; and
WHEREAS, Linda was a 2017 recipient of the Shellabarger Illuminator Award in recognition for her tireless fight for LGBTQ+ rights in order to forge a more inclusive Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Karla Rothan, a founding board member of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Foundation, a trustee for the Greater Columbus Arts Council, and a trustee for the Short North Alliance, is among the longest-serving Columbus Recreation and Parks commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Karla led Stonewall Columbus for twelve years, entirely transforming its business model, increasing its budget from $400,000 to over $1 million in yearly revenue; and
WHEREAS, Karla developed partnerships with local government, arts organizations, social service agencies, and other nonprofit organizations to create programs for the LGBTQ community and its allies, making possible the renovation and restoration the Stonewall Columbus Community Center,
WHEREAS, the joint efforts of Linda Schuler and Karla Rothan have made Columbus more of a ‘home’ to many of her residents,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate Linda Schuler and Karla Rothan for their lifetimes of contributions to our city.
