To Recognize October 9, 2022 as Anti-Racism Sunday

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, institutional racism is now recognized as adeterrent to life, liberty, health, and prosperity for all citizens of these United states; and

 

WHEREAS, Judicatories of the Ohio Council of Churches have initiated efforts to support racial justice for over 100 years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council of Churches created or participated in efforts to promote racial justice and foster anti-discriminations efforts such as, but not limited to, creating broups to educate city leaders and legislators about the plight of Wrongful Incarceration and the Death Penalty, Black Children in Trouble, Urban Crisis and Black Survival, and making dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a state holiday; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ohio Council of Churches has sponsored an annual Anti-racism sunday to enable churches in Ohio to diminish racism in churches and other institutions; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council's Anti-Racism Team has organized activities for both member and non-member churches in Ohio to observe  this year's Anti-Racism Sunday on October 9, 2022; now, therefore:

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: to declare Sunday, October as Anti-Racism in recognition of churches efforts to reduce the deleterious effects that racism from health, happiness, and general welfare of our community.
