Body
WHEREAS, Shadowbox Live (SBX), located at 503 South Front Street, is celebrating their 35th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, SBX is an Ohio original, founded in Columbus by local artists determined to change the face of live theater through consistently irregular art with an imperfect, unapologetic energy that promotes vulnerability and honesty; and
WHEREAS, SBX is the nation’s largest resident theater ensemble, employing dozens of artists and administrators to fulfill its mission to engage, enrich, and entertain the world by conceiving, producing, and performing nearly 570 original works in over 15,000 performances for more than 3 million patrons; and
WHEREAS, SBX lives by the notion that “art is for all” and enriches the community by donating over $8 million in time, talent, and resources to over 600 civic outreach efforts and by inspiring over 15,000 students to explore and design their own pathway toward art through the nationally recognized STEM-based Performance Academy; and
WHEREAS, Columbus City Council joins with SBX in recognizing the power of art and is grateful for SBX’s innovation and dedication to creating a thriving art scene in the City of Columbus; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate Shadowbox Live on their 35th anniversary of creating innovative art in the City of Columbus.
