To recognize the partnership between the Commission on Black Girls and Eryn PiNK Girl Empowerment to improve the quality of life of Black Girls and celebrate October 11, 2022, as the International Day of the Girl in the City of Columbus.

Body
WHEREAS, the International Day of the Girl highlights the gender inequality that can begin for girls in their early adolescence with disparities appearing in the ability to access education, medical care and nutritional guidance as well as be protected from discrimination, forced child marriage and violence against women; and

WHEREAS, The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 on December 19, 2011 declaring October 11th as the International Day of the Girl, recognizing the rights of girls and the unique challenges facing girls globally; and

WHEREAS, The International Day of the Girl encourages the empowerment of girls and ensuring their basic rights to freedom, as well as protecting their human rights; and

WHEREAS, On July 16, 2018, Columbus City Council adopted resolution 0208X-2018 to create the Commission on Black Girls with a focus on changing the life trajectory of Black women by creating opportunities for Black girls; and

WHEREAS, In honor of International Day of the Girl, Columbus City Council acknowledges the mission of the Eryn PiNK Girl Empowerment program of ICE Mentors to empower youth to live purposeful lives and thrive; additionally, the Eryn Pink Girl Empowerment programs are aligned with the work of the Commission on Black Girls; and

WHEREAS, The Commission on Black Girls and Eryn PiNK Girl Empowerment will come together for a week-long celebration of International Day of the Girl leading up to the 10th Annual Give That Girl the Mic; Columbus’ All Girl Talent Showcase at the Lincoln Theatre on October 15, 2022 now therefore;
