Title

 

To recognize the centennial of United Way of Central Ohio in 2023 and celebrate 100 years of innovation and impact that improves the lives of families and children by mobilizing the caring power of the City of Columbus and Franklin County.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, United Way of Central Ohio evolved from the Columbus Community Fund, which formed as a united fundraising effort in 1923 with the slogan “One campaign for all” and raised over $600,000 for 28 agencies; and

WHEREAS, United Way of Central Ohio has partnered with and brought together corporations, nonprofits, public and government entities, donors, advocates and volunteers for 100 years to collectively build a community in which everyone has the aspirations, resources and opportunities to reach their fullest potential; and

WHEREAS, United Way of Central Ohio has led the way in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts by launching the nation’s first United Way LGBT giving group, partnering to develop and conduct the community’s first-ever census of the LGBT community, and establishing a board development program designed for leaders who are racially and ethnically diverse and/or members of the LGBTQ+ community; and

WHEREAS, United Way of Central Ohio has been a trusted and valuable partner with hundreds of local nonprofits, raising more than $1.7 billion over the past 100 years to support their work and the families they serve; and

WHEREAS, United Way of Central Ohio is committed to its Success by Third Grade movement, with the future vision that by 2035 all children in Franklin County will be on a pathway to success by the time they leave third grade;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize United Way of Central Ohio’s rich legacy of improving lives in our community for 100 years and is pleased to honor and celebrate the organization’s centennial in 2023 while anticipating the next 100 years of remarkable achievements and growth.
