To Congratulate the Africentric Lady Nubians Basketball Team on Winning the 2022-2023 OHSAA Division III State Championship

WHEREAS, Africentric Early College is part of Columbus City Schools; and
WHEREAS, the Africentric Girls Basketball team, known as the Lady Nubians, are amongst the most successful teams in the state and annually contend for City, District, Regional, and State titles; and
WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 season was another success for the Lady Nubians, who finished the year with a record of 24-4 and won their eighth consecutive City League title with a dominant 56-13 win in the championship game; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Nubians continued their run by winning their 17th District Championship in 20 years with a 48-26 win and took home the Regional Championship with a 44-35 victory; and
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2023, the Lady Nubians secured their eighth State Championship, tied for the most all time by any school in Ohio, defeating Doylestown Chippewa 75-62 and setting the record for most points in a DIII State Tournament game, tying the record for most points in a first quarter, and making 14 consecutive field goals during an incredible offensive performance; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Nubians proudly represent the City of Columbus and displayed tremendous skill, dedication, and passion, and embodied the importance of working together to overcome adversity in pursuit of a shared goal; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus is proud to honor and celebrate our youth and the educators, coaches, and mentors who empower them to achieve success on and off the court; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council congratulates the Africentric Lady Nubians Basketball Team on winning the 2022-2023 OHSAA Division III State Championship.
