To honor and celebrate Mr. Damian Earley, a student at Whetstone High School in Columbus, Ohio, for receiving a U.S Patent for his “The Garbage Lot” invention.

WHEREAS, Mr. Damian Earley, an 11th grader at Whetstone High School, deserves recognition for his outstanding commitment to innovation, sustainability, excellence, and community responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Earley gained interest in the invention process early, participating in “Invention Convention” every year since the second grade. This is a competition where students go through the invention process to solve an everyday problem; and

WHEREAS, after numerous awards and competitions won, in January 2023 Mr. Earley received a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for his invention titled “The Garbage Lot;” and

WHEREAS, Mr. Earley’s invention is a weighted base that supports a trash or recycling bin. It has a pedal mechanism that attaches to the bin from the axle to keep it from falling over. This helps prevent debris from falling onto the ground, creating litter; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Earley has been recognized by numerous media outlets including the Columbus Dispatch, Spectrum Local News, WOSU, Axios, and more; and

WHEREAS, while still in high school, Mr. Earley remains a leading champion advocating for cleaner communities in Central Ohio. In the future, he has aspirations to see his product out in the real world one day and that his invention will lead to an internship, career, and educational opportunities to pursue a career in engineering; and

WHEREAS, Columbus City Council thanks Mr. Damian Earley for his dedication and commitment to sustainability in Central Ohio and for inspiring all Columbus residents that we all can have a place in our fight for the health and wellbeing of our planet; now, therefore
