To congratulate Jamie Shumaker as the 2022 George Meany Award recipient.

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, Jamie has served for 21 years as a dietary technician for the WIC department for Columbus Public Health, where in 2015 she was elected as the President of AFSCME Local 2191, by her co-workers.
WHEREAS, Jamie is the Code of Conduct Compliance Designee for Central Ohio Labor Council, AFL-CIO, where her focus is ensuring the environment is free from discrimination and harassment; and
WHEREAS,Jamie was also elected by her peers to serve as the Secretary-Treasurer of Central Ohio ALF where she advocates for working people at the state and local level. Additionally, Jamie was recently elected as a Trustee for the Central Ohio Labor Council, AFL-CIO Executive Board; and
WHEREAS, Jamie serves on the Central Labor Council Community Services Committee, and she has dedicated the last four years working with this team to help secure food and volunteers for the Christmas Cares/Unions Share food program. This food program feeds close to 3,000 families every year for almost two weeks during the Christmas and New Year holidays; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That we hereby congratulate Jamie SHumaker as the 2022 George Meany Award recipient.
