Explanation
Background: This ordinance amends Columbus City Codes Title 19, Chapter 919, Section 919.24 Park Rules and Regulations; Fireworks, in order to address changes to the state law regarding fireworks and to reflect the amendments to Title 25, the Columbus Fire Prevention Code.
Reference of Columbus City Codes Chapter 2533 within Columbus City Codes Section 919.24 should be amended to reference Columbus City Codes Chapter 2556. This amendment will align Columbus City Codes Section 919.24 with the amendments within Title 25, the Columbus Fire Prevention Code.

To amend Columbus City Codes Title 19, Chapter 919, Section 919.24 Park Rules and Regulations; Fireworks, in order to address changes to the state law regarding fireworks and to reflect the amendments to Title 25, the Columbus Fire Prevention Code.

WHEREAS, it is necessary to amend Columbus City Codes Section 919.24, Park Rules and Regulations; Fireworks, in order to address changes to the state law regarding fireworks and to reflect the amendments to Title 25, the Columbus Fire Prevention Code; and
WHEREAS, this amendment will amend the reference of Columbus City Codes Chapter 2533, within Columbus City Codes Section 919.24, to reference Columbus City Codes Chapter 2556; and
WHEREAS, the Recreation and Parks Commission, by action of March 12, 2024, has reviewed and voted to recommend the City Code changes contained herein; and
WHEREAS, the usual daily operations of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to authorize the amendment of Columbus City Codes Section 919.24 in order to immediately amend and align codified park rules and regulations, regarding fireworks, with the Columbus Fire Prevention Code to help ensure the safety of residents within parks, all for the immediate preservation of the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare and, NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That Columbus City Codes Section 919.24, Park Rules and Regulations, Fireworks, be amended as provided for below.
919.24 - Fireworks.
No person shall possess, be in control of or engage in the discharge of fireworks, unless approved by the director and pursuant to Chapter 2533 Chapter 2556 of the Columbus City Code.
SECTION 2. That the existing Section 919.24 is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
