To Congratulate Sherrod Brown as the 2025 George Meany Community Leadership Award Recipient.

Body

WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and

WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare, and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and

WHEREAS, Senator Sherrod Brown has spent his life fighting for the Dignity of Work, the belief that hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are, where you live, or what kind of work you do;

WHEREAS, Over a lifetime of public service, including more than three decades serving Ohioans in Congress, Senator Brown has been one of the country’s most consistent champions for American workers. A leading advocate for the labor movement, Senator Brown led efforts to fix our broken trade policies that enrich multinational corporations at the expense of workers, helping transform the national consensus on trade; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong Ohioan, Senator Brown grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. He is the author of three books, and lives in Bexley, Ohio with his wife Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and author. They are blessed with three daughters, a son, eight grandchildren and their beloved dogs, Franklin and Walter; and

WHEREAS, Senator Brown’s leadership and dedication to the residents of Ohio is invaluable. He has committed his life to community leadership and his actions and initiatives have greatly improved the lives of everyone in our community; now therefore
