Explanation
Background:
This ordinance authorizes the Director of Recreation and Parks (CRPD) to accept a grant and enter into an agreement with National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), a national non-profit entity dedicated to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. The NRPA Youth Sports Equity Program grant will advance equitable access to youth sports by providing support for a series of events and programs designed to introduce and develop the sport of volleyball for girls in our community.
The series of events will start with a Girls Empowerment Event where the girls will be taught basic volleyball skills and the fundamentals of the sport. Following the Girl Empowerment Event volleyball classes will be offered at local centers so the girls can compete and apply what they have learned.
A summer volleyball camp week will be offered to further develop the girls’ skills and teamwork, and in the fall there will be by a girls’ volleyball league giving the girls he opportunity to compete and apply what they have learned.
