To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Robert L. Pettus, 1948-2025

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Pettus, a devoted public servant and pillar of the Columbus community, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy marked by service, strength, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, born in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 3, 1948, and raised in Columbus, Robert graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University, beginning a meaningful career in social services in both Columbus and Cincinnati; and

WHEREAS, in 1980, Robert joined the Columbus Division of Fire, where he served with distinction as a firefighter and paramedic, eventually being assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau, and faithfully serving the department for over two decades until his retirement in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Robert was known throughout the community for his dedication to public safety and for mentoring and supporting colleagues, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serving others; and

WHEREAS, outside of his professional life, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, deeply committed to his family and active in the lives of his loved ones, offering steady guidance, encouragement, and care across generations; and

WHEREAS, Robert’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched-whether through his career in social work and firefighting, his passion for helping others, or the values he instilled in his family and community; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Robert L. Pettus, 1948-2025.
