To recognize the week of May 18 through 24, 2008 as National Public Works Week in the City of Columbus.

Whereas, public works infrastructure, facilities and services are of vital importance to the health, safety and welfare of residents of Columbus; and
 
Whereas, such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers and administrators from all levels of government who are responsible for the designing, building, operating and maintaining the transportation, water supply, sewage and refusal disposal systems, public buildings and other structures and facilities essential to serve our citizens; and
 
Whereas, it is in the public interest for all citizens and civic leaders of this country to learn about the array of facilities and services provided through the public works infrastructure; and
 
Whereas, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That we hereby recognize the week of May 18 through 24, 2008 as National Public Works Week and urge our residents to join with the American Public Works Association to pay tribute and pay our public works professionals, engineers and administrators for the substantial contributions they have made to our health, safety and welfare.
