To commend Loann Woods Crane for her outstanding commitment to the community and to honor and recognize her as recipient of the 2008 Heritage Award for Caring.

WHEREAS, on May 22, 2008, Heritage Day Health Centers will honor Loann Woods Crane with the esteemed Heritage Award for Caring, which is presented annually to those who truly "embody the spirit of community caring"; and
 
WHEREAS, Heritage Day Health Centers is an independent non-profit agency and Ohio's largest provider of adult daycare services that enable clients to continue living as independently as possible; and
 
WHEREAS, Loann Woods Crane is the sixth person to receive this prestigious honor; and
 
WHEREAS, Loann Woods Crane was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, was married to Robert S. Crane, Jr. from 1948 until his passing in December 1992, and is the mother of four children,
Dr. Robert S. Crane III, Dr. Thomas W. Crane, Ann B. Crane, and Mary Jameson Crane; and
 
WHEREAS, Loann Woods Crane received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University and is a Director of Crane Group Company, a Columbus private holding and management company founded by Robert S. Crane, Jr. in 1947 and now operated by the family's third generation; and
 
WHEREAS, Loann Woods Crane is currently Chair of the Columbus Arts Endowment, on the Council of the College of the Arts & Sciences, a Trustee for the Upper Arlington Public Library Foundation, Director of United Way Planned Giving, and on the Board of Trustees of the Franklin County Education Council and has served on the boards of many other community service organizations; and
 
WHEREAS, Loann Woods Crane has received numerous awards of recognition since 1978 including Northwest Woman of the Year Award from the Upper Arlington Rotary, Humanitarian Award from Temple Israel, the Gerlach Award for OSU Outstanding Volunteer and OSU Distinguished Services Award, the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American Red Cross of Central Ohio, and the Democracy in Action Award from the League of Women Voters;
now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That Loann Woods Crane shall hereby be commended for her outstanding commitment to the community and honored and recognized for receiving the well-deserved 2008 Heritage Award for Caring.
