To welcome the World Changers organization to the City of Columbus and honor the organization for its commitment to the residents of our neighborhoods and communities nationwide.
Body
WHEREAS, World Changers seeks to provide Christian youth and adults with opportunities to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others through practical learning experiences that teach servanthood and personal commitment to missions; and
WHEREAS, World Changers national work projects began in the summer of 1990 when Briceville, Tennessee hosted 137 youth and adults for one week in the World Changers pilot project. High school youth performed light construction jobs on nine homes in the area using the format that is still used today. This year over 21,000 volunteers will be serving communities throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, These youth groups are typically housed in local schools, churches, or college facilities. The youth in Columbus will be hosted by Briggs High School. In preparation for their week of service, youth are required to complete a pre-project study and a local work project; and
WHEREAS, The World Changers project is a neighborhood home repair initiative that will benefit 21 homes and homeowners on the south side of Columbus through the work of 200 youth and adult volunteers coming through the World Changers organization. Scheduled repairs include: replacing leaking roofs, re-siding and repainting exterior walls, replacing broken handrails, and fixing porches and steps; and
WHEREAS, The project provides young people with an opportunity to serve and provides for needed repairs to homeowners who do not have the resources to do the work themselves. This project will help preserve affordable housing stock and improve the quality of life for residents of the south side of Columbus; now, therefore
