To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Columbus resident John Joseph Manning III and to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing, June 26, 2008.
 
 
Body
 
WHEREAS, John Joseph Manning III was born in Kansas City and graduated from Rockhurst High School, and earned degrees from Rockhurst College, Kansas State University and The Ohio State University; and
 
WHEREAS, it was the appeal of Schiller Park that first attracted John to Columbus. He lived in German Village for over 40 years, owning a house overlooking the park for the last 20 of those years; and
 
WHEREAS, John was a literary scholar and an educator who was the founder and chairman of Educable educational access television; and
 
WHEREAS, He also served as a Media Production Supervisor for Columbus State Community College, an accounting consultant, and general manager of WCRX-LP 102.1FM; and
 
WHEREAS, John was a passionate community activist and ardent reformer who advocated for passenger rail, environmental conservation, and protecting voter rights; and
 
WHEREAS, It was his passionate conviction to help others that also led John to volunteer his time as treasurer for several organizations; and
 
WHEREAS, He will be dearly missed as host of The John Manning Morning Show on WCRX-LP; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this elected body today humbly honors and recognizes John Joseph Manning III, an outstanding community activist, a visionary and a true gentleman, with the utmost esteem on the occasion of his passing, June 26, 2008.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be presented to the family and friends of John Joseph Manning III with our sincerest condolences and respect.
