To recognize the Columbus Jewish Historical Society's efforts to preserve the heritage of the Jewish communities of central Ohio, including the Legacy 2010: 170 Years of Jewish Life in Central Ohio exhibit.

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1982, the Columbus Jewish Historical Society has preserved the stories, artifacts, images, and heritage of the Jewish communities of central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, CJHS maintains an archive containing documents, photographs, and a variety of other items related to the 170 years of permanent Jewish settlement in the region, which the public may view calling (614) 559-3233 to schedule an appointment; and
WHEREAS, the Society organizes and sponsors programs throughout the year on local history and genealogy, and regularly partners with area synagogues and other history organizations to preserve and promote central Ohio's Jewish heritage; and
WHEREAS, a new exhibit, Legacy 2010: 170 Years of Jewish Life in Central Ohio, will be on view at the Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community Center, located at 1125 College Ave., from April 12th through June 4th, 2010; and
WHEREAS, this exhibit, and the numerous events to be held in conjunction with it, will continue the Columbus Jewish Historical Society's commitment to sharing our Jewish communities' rich heritage with the residents of Columbus and central Ohio; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council recognizes the significant contribution made by the Columbus Jewish Historical Society to our community, and encourages the public to view Legacy 2010: 170 Years of Jewish Life in Central Ohio.
