To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Firefighter John P. Moore and to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends on the occasion of his passing Monday, March 29, 2010


Body

WHEREAS, Columbus Firefighter John P. Moore, age 56, passed away suddenly while on-duty Monday, March 29, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Moore was a 34 year veteran of the Columbus Division of Fire. He was assigned to Engine 11 on January 1, 1976 as a recruit firefighter. In 1980, Firefighter Moore became a certified paramedic and was promoted to paramedic in-charge in 1983. Over his career, Firefighter Moore worked on Engine 20, Engine 8, Engine 17, Squad 18, Medic 2, Medic 16, Medic 1, an EMS Instructor, Medic 24, Training 25, and Medic 34. Firefighter Moore also worked for Med Flight for 25 years from which he retired. Firefighter Moore's last assignment was Training 25; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Moore was the first E.M.S. Member of the Year and also received many other commendations including Medic Crewman of the Year; Battalion Chief's Commendation; and Firefighter of the Month. Firefighter Moore was also selected to receive the Max Haverman Award on April 9, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Moore was devoted to his community. He served as a member of the Ohio Medical Transportation and Safety Board and the American Red Cross board. Firefighter Moore mentored youth at Champion Middle School and was a lifetime member and Sunday School Volunteer at Mount Vernon Ave. A.M.E. Church; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant and a consummate professional, Firefighter Moore dedicated his entire adult life working to better the Columbus Division of Fire. He was a mentor and friend to many, teaching through his actions the importance of doing the right thing. Firefighter Moore left an indelible impression on the many people whose lives he touched, and he will be remembered for his many talents, his strong leadership, kindness and integrity. He ...
