Explanation
BACKGROUND
On August 24, 2026, Columbus City Council approved ordinance 2354-2026, sending the petition referred to as "Proposed Charter Amendment No. 1, City Council District Elections” to the November 3rd ballot for consideration. The ordinance contained a drafting error in Section 6, inadvertently referring to a previously-ordained ballot issue. This ordinance corrects the drafting error. There are no changes whatsoever to the language of the ballot issue, the summary, or anything else that would appear before voters on November 3rd, 2026.
Emergency action is requested in order to immediately amend 2354-2026 and avoid any confusion for Boards of Elections.

Body
WHEREAS, previously passed ordinance 2354-2026 contains a drafting error in the portion of the ordinance not associated with the ballot language itself; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance makes the necessary correction; and
WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily business of City Council in that it is immediately necessary to authorize this amendment in order to avoid any potential for confusion on behalf of Boards of Elections as they assemble the ballot for the November general election, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
SECTION 1. That Section 6 of ordinance 2354-2026 is hereby amended as follows:
SECTION 6. That the boards of elections of Franklin County, Delaware County, and Fairfield County, Ohio be and hereby are requested to place the question, "Proposed Charter Amendment No. 1, Community Crisis Response City Council District Elections" upon the ballot to be submitted to the electors as provided for and upon the date set forth herein.
