To Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate the Life of Marcus Marquis Payne.

WHEREAS, Marcus Marquis Payne was born in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, May 25, 1994 to dedicated City of Columbus employees, Mark Payne and Victoria Landrum; and
WHEREAS, Marcus was an inner city school student graduating from West High School and attending Columbus State Community College and The Ohio State University; and
WHEREAS, Marcus attended Trio Upward Bound Summer Enrichment Program, achieved the Webelos ranking in Cub Scouts, and enjoyed sports and stayed active playing baseball for Georgian Heights, football for Westside Dolphins, along with track and basketball for West High School; and
WHEREAS, Marcus was a hard worker in sales & marketing and volunteered in the Hilltop community at Westland Area Library, J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center, and his local church, Friendship Missionary Baptist. He was a summer assistant for the Athletic Department of Columbus State Community College. He gave back to the Westside/Hilltop community by providing food or other items of need; and
WHEREAS, Marcus Marquis Payne was shot on August 30, 2021 in Victorian Village and succumbed to those injuries on September 11, 2021 making him the 141st Homicide of 2021 in Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, his family and friends mourn his loss, but celebrate his life, his love for family, friends, and providing support to those in need through What Would Marcus Do, an avenue to bring hope and resources to our community along with bringing a greater awareness to Gun Violence in the city of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, Columbus City Council recognizes the value, accomplishments, sacrifices, and selfless contributions of Marcus M. Payne and What Would Marcus Do during National Gun Violence Awareness Month; now, therefore
