To Recognize and Celebrate April 1st to April 8th as National Community Development Week

WHEREAS, the first week of April 2024 has been designated National Community Development Week. Columbus, Ohio, is a participant in the Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Emergency Solutions Grant, and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (Community Development Programs), which provide funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for public infrastructure, economic development, and housing programs in this community; and
WHEREAS, in Columbus, Ohio, and communities throughout the United States, fifty years of Community Development Block Grant funding has helped develop a strong relationship between Columbus and its residents, principally those of low-to-moderate income; and
WHEREAS, the HOME Investment Partnerships Program has provided housing resources for low-to-moderate-income residents in Columbus, Ohio, and communities in the United States for over thirty-two years; and
WHEREAS, the Emergency Solutions Grant Program first originated in 1987 and has served those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing emergency shelter and rapid rehousing services; and
WHEREAS, since 1990, the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program has dedicated resources for the housing needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS; and
WHEREAS, this Council recognizes that Community Development Programs are a partnership of federal, state, and local government as well as community and business efforts. Council recognizes the vital importance of the work being done in Columbus’ lower-income neighborhoods and across the country; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate April 1-8th, 2024 National Community Development week.
