Explanation

Background: This ordinance authorizes the Director of the Recreation and Parks Department to apply for grant funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) NatureWorks grant program. The NatureWorks grant program is accepting applications for funding to rehabilitate recreational areas. If awarded, the funding will be used towards the Sullivant Gardens Park Improvements project.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is accepting grant applications for the Nature Works fund program. The grant offers assistance to governmental agencies for the acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of recreational areas. Grant applications are due June 1, 2024. The notification of the grant acceptance will be awarded in September 2024. The anticipated grant is approximately $70,000 to $150,000, and if awarded, a 25% match funding will be required.

This grant will be used towards the Sullivant Gardens Park Improvements project. This project will improve a currently unusable open field and turn it into a green space suitable for recreational sports and open play. It will also construct additional parking, walkways, and fencing adjacent to the existing Sullivant Gardens Community Center.
