To honor, recognize and celebrate the life of Wiley E. Bates Jr., 1944-2024

WHEREAS, Wiley E. Bates Jr. was born on February 28, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Wiley was a proud graduate of East High School and Franklin University; and
WHEREAS, after beginning his career with the Korger Corporation’s management team, Wiley was called to public service and joined the Ohio state government; and
WHEREAS, Wiley dedicated 30 years of service of the Ohio Department of Taxation, serving as an Assistant Administrator of Processing; and
WHEREAS, outside of work, Wiley continued to serve his community in several roles, including volunteer service with Rebuilding Together Columbus, Columbus Neighborhood Health, and South Side Settlement, and as financial secretary of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity; and
WHEREAS, the City of Columbus extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of Wiley E. Bates Jr., including his beloved wife Donna, sons Harold and Wiley III, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and countless other extended family members, friends, and loved ones; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Wiley E. Bates Jr.
