Explanation
Background: This ordinance will authorize the Director of Public Safety to donate sixty (60) surplus uniform shirts to a charitable organization. The Knox County Joint Veterans Honor Guard provides military ceremonial services during funerals of their armed services veterans. They are a volunteer organization made up of thirty (30) former military members from a variety of branches. As such, they wear a generic uniform of white shirts and dark trousers. The City of Columbus would be donating white, long-sleeve shirts of a variety of sizes. All Columbus Division of Police insignia will be removed prior to donation.

WHEREAS, the Public Safety Department, Division of Police, will donate sixty (60) surplus uniform shirts to a charitable organization, Knox County Joint Veterans Honor Guard, for generic uniforms worn at services; and
WHEREAS, this donation will provide volunteers shirts to wear to funeral services they attend for military members; and
WHEREAS, it has become necessary in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Safety to authorize the Public Safety Director to donate sixty (60) surplus uniform shirts.
WHEREAS, this Council finds it to be in the best interest to waive the relevant provisions of Chapter 329 relating to the Sale of City Owned Personal Property; and
