To Congratulate John Woolum as the 2024 George Meany Scout Award Recipient.

WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, the George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare, and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, John has worked for General Mills for 33 years a proud member of the UFCW Local 1059; and
WHEREAS, John got involved with the Boy Scouts of America over 19 years ago with his son, Michael; and
WHEREAS, in those 19 years, John has held different positions including, Assistant Club Master, Co-Master, Merit Badge Counselor, and Scoutmaster. For the last 7 years, he has been a committee member for Cub Scout and Boy Scouts Venturing Crew; and
WHEREAS, John’s willingness to encourage involvement in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and share his life lessons highlights his passion for the Boy Scouts Program. His leadership’s significance in nurturing and guiding these young men is immeasurable; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That we hereby congratulate John Woolum as the 2024 George Meany Scout Award recipient.
