To Congratulate Susan Wilson as the 2024 George Meany Award Recipient.

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare, and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
WHEREAS, Susan Wilson has been an active union leader for CWA Local 4502 for over 20 years. She began her career with the City of Columbus in 1995 and she quickly began her service to her union in 2001 when she became Secretary. Then, in 2013, her peers elected her to the role of Vice President, and in 2019 she was elected President; and
WHEREAS, Susan holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from Ohio University, and Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Rio Grande; and
WHEREAS, as Vice President, Susan prioritized representing members in grievance hearings and disciplines. She also worked with the Women’s Committee to develop community outreach projects including a book drive for the Women’s shelter and a purse drive for Dress for Success. Moreover, she led recruitment efforts to boost membership, succeeding in recruiting scores of new members following the Janis decision in 2018; and
WHEREAS, as President, Susan helped organize Christmas Cares, Unions Share, an annual event that feeds over 3,000 families each holiday season. Susan also helped connect those in need of assistance with various services in the community, demonstrating her dedication to the community; now therefore,
