Explanation

Background: This legislation authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into contract for the Transportation Division for a professional engineering services contract for the General Engineering Bridges 2008 project with Glaus, Pyle, Schomer, Burns and Dehaven (GPD), in the amount of $300,000.00. A professional services contract for engineering is needed to assure timely completion of the project design and the Transportation Division does not maintain adequate staff or all of the various disciplines necessary to complete such design in house. The intent of the contract is to provide the Transportation Division with resources to perform engineering and surveying tasks specifically related to bridges. Services include design of bridges and culverts as well as plans to repair existing structures. Because the services may be small in scope for individual projects, and some services may be required to quickly address discovered bridge deficiencies, it is desireable to lump the services into one contract.

The selection process for the professional service contracts has been done in accordance with provisions of Chapter 329.12 of Columbus City Codes 1959. The Director of Public Service determined that GPD, CC #341134715 (expiring 1/15/10), submitted the best overall proposal.

Emergency action is requested in order to begin this preliminary engineering work immediately and keep commitments made to the local community.

Fiscal Impact: Funds in the amount of $300,000.00 are budgeted and available in the Voted 1995, 1999, 2004 Streets and Highways Fund for the Transportation Division.
